Real and Complex Numbers.

Mathcad stores all numbers as floating-point binary numbers, which are displayed as:

  • whole numbers, for example, 345;
  • decimals(with point serving as separator), for example, 2.456 ;
  • common fractions, for example,Real and Complex Numbers. ;
  • mixed numeral, for example, Real and Complex Numbers. ;
  • In the exponential form, for example, 2.654*1032 .

It is possible to assign the way computation results will be displayed. Mathcad does it with help of the menu Format, Result.. The dialogue box appears which lets the user enter the format of the result.

The example of various formats in use in order to display computation results is shown in the programme listing.

Real and Complex Numbers.

While performing operations with complex numbers in Mathcad it is important to take into consideration a few peculiarities of computing:

- for the multiple-valued function the programme returns value, which hades the minimal positively oriented angle with the positive direction of the real axis on the complex plane, for example, Real and Complex Numbers. ;

- it is obligatory to keep in mind the specific character of performing arithmetic operations in Mathcad, , which are identical from point of view of mathematics but different what concerns the way they are recorded. The radical expression is regarded as real number, the power of number as a complex one, for example:

Also, performing operations with complex numbers one should keep in mind, that |Z| defines the modulus of the complex number, while  Real and Complex Numbers. is a number, complex conjugate with Z. For example:
